When did 'we'll get back to you' turn into a 2 week silence?

Back in 2016, a handshake and a purchase order number meant the job was on, at least around my shop in Austin. Now I had a client sit on a signed estimate for 11 days, then message me at 9pm asking if I could start tomorrow without ever mentioning the money part. Has anyone else seen the gap between a verbal yes and an actual deposit grow that wide, or is it just my corner of the trades?

Man, the 9pm text thing hits different... like they think we're just sitting by the phone waiting for their crumbs. Honestly I think the real shift is people treating our time like it's free to hold, and the money talk is somehow the awkward part now.
