Used to haul recycling to the curb every Sunday, now I compost and it cut my trash in half
Back in 2019 I was putting out 3 bins every Sunday night, and half of it was food scraps and pizza boxes. Then my city started a compost pilot program in 2021, so I got a small counter bin and started saving eggshells, coffee grounds, and veggie peels instead of tossing them. For the first couple months it smelled awful because I wasn't balancing greens and browns, but once I started adding shredded paper and dry leaves it settled down and now I empty it maybe once a week. My trash can went from full every week to barely half full, which honestly surprised me more than it should have. Curious if anyone else composts in an apartment or small place, and how you handle the smell in summer.
