Appreciation post: 11 years on the same Okuma lathe and the turret still indexes dead on
A new guy asked me last month why I still hand-check turret alignment with a tenths indicator every Monday morning, and I told him it caught a .0015 drift back in 2019 after a small crash nobody reported. Curious if anyone else keeps a log book on their machine's little quirks, because mine has saved me twice now.

Keeping a log book on a machine is a lot like keeping one on your own body, honestly. My dad wrote down every time his back went out and what he ate that day, and after a few years he figured out it was the store-bought bread doing it. Same idea with your lathe, those little quirks add up to a story if you write them down. The guys who skip the log are the ones who get surprised by the same problem twice.
