Hit a 0.0005 inch tolerance on a shaft nobody asked me to hold that tight
Ran a shaft for a pump rebuild in Akron last month. Print called out plus or minus 0.002. I got it to half a thou and hit my 500th straight good part on the same insert. That number surprised me more than the tolerance did. I started keeping a tally on my toolbox lid with a paint pen, and seeing 500 in a row made me realize the setup finally clicked. Same inserts, same feeds, nothing fancy. Two years ago I was scrapping one in ten on stuff half as tight. Now I want to know where everyone else draws the line between hitting print and showing off. Do you chase the number or just get it in spec and move on?
