Talked to a retired machinist and now I doubt my tool offsets

Guy next to me at a swap meet in Dayton said my gauge block routine was junk. He showed me his hand ground pins and said tolerances drift every 8 hours. Has anyone else done a mid-shift offset check and been off by 2 thou?
