Back when I kept all my code on a single Notepad file with no backups

I remember my first real project around 2018, a simple calculator app, and I just saved everything in one giant Notepad file on my desktop. No version control, no folders, nothing. Then my laptop crashed and I lost three weeks of work because I never thought to back it up. Now I use GitHub for even tiny projects and commit after every single change. Has anyone else lost a whole project and switched their habits overnight?

Nah, I still keep everything in one file until it's done.

Makes me think of the people who keep every receipt in their wallet until it disintegrates.

Nah man that's a disaster waiting to happen. One stray keystroke and your whole project is toast. Good luck finding that one function inside a 4000 line file at 2am. Way too many hours wasted doing exactly that in my early days.
