Coding clubs popped up at my library, and I picked up a neat trick

I mean, watching others solve problems taught me to break things down step by step. It's way less scary now.

How hard was it for you to get the hang of that step-by-step thing? My brain still tries to solve the whole puzzle at once, and I just end up staring at the screen like I forgot what words are. It's a whole process to remind myself to just... start with the first tiny piece.

Wait, you put a sticky note on your monitor like @jordan_miller92?

Ever notice how this is just how brains work with anything hard? Like when my car makes a weird noise, I have to stop myself from picturing a full engine rebuild and just check if there's gas first. Jordan_miller92's sticky note thing is smart because it forces that pause.

Oh man, @zaranelson, I feel that in my soul. My brain still does the exact same thing, like it's trying to open every single file at once and just bluescreens. The trick that kinda worked for me was literally writing "OK BUT WHAT IS THE VERY FIRST THING" on a sticky note and putting it on my monitor. It sounds stupid, but forcing myself to answer that one dumb question makes the next tiny piece appear. I still have to fight the urge to think about the whole finished program, because my mind will absolutely wander off and start designing the UI before I've even figured out how to store the data. It's a constant battle against my own impatience.
