Serious question, did anyone else think a rubber duck was stupid until they actually tried it?
I rolled my eyes at the whole "explain your code to a duck" thing for months, but last Thursday I spent 90 minutes stuck on a loop in my Python scraper and finally grabbed a rubber duck off my desk. Ten seconds into explaining it out loud I heard myself say the wrong variable name and fixed it in like two minutes. Now I keep one next to my keyboard, has anyone else had it work that fast or was I just extra stuck that day?
Gotta disagree that it was fast because you were extra stuck. Explaining code out loud forces your brain to slow down and actually process each step instead of skipping ahead, which is why you caught the bad variable so quick. The duck isn't magic, it just makes you talk through the details your head usually skips.
