Guy at the farmers market told me my pour over method was wrong
Last Saturday some dude in a flannel watched me brew and said I should be pouring in clockwise circles instead of back and forth. Has anyone else had a random stranger critique their setup?

Can't believe a random dude at a farmers market actually stopped to critique your pour over. That's wild, like who even does that?

The "clockwise circles only" thing is one of those coffee myths that just won't die. In my experience, back and forth can work just fine depending on your grinder and how fine you go. Actually, some really good coffee shops in Portland do a back and forth motion to keep the bed even. Your mileage may vary, but I've found that what matters more is keeping the water temperature steady and making sure all the grounds get wet evenly, not the direction you're swirling. That guy probably saw one James Hoffmann video and took it as gospel.
