My $18 pour over cone showed up 3 weeks late, and now I'm in a dumb debate with my roommate about grinders
So three weeks ago I ordered an $18 ceramic pour over cone from a shop in Portland, and it finally showed up last Tuesday. The whole time I was waiting, I got lazy and just used my roommate's blade grinder instead of my hand grinder, and honestly the cups were not that bad. Now he says grinders don't matter and it's all about the beans, which feels crazy to me. I say a $40 hand grinder beats a $15 blade grinder every single time, but he keeps pointing at the pour over cone and saying I wasted my cash. We have gone back and forth about this for like four days now and I need other people to settle it. Who is being stubborn here, and has anyone else had a roommate or partner who swears gear does not matter at all?

Man that roommate standoff sounds exhausting, four days of the same argument is rough. For what it's worth you are not crazy, a burr grinder gives you an even grind and that changes the cup way more than people want to admit. Dude is just dug in because he does not want to buy one.
