My grinder died mid pour and a $4 part fixed it
I was at my kitchen counter in Boise on a Sunday morning with a fresh bag of Ethiopian beans, halfway through grinding for a V60, when the burr just stopped and made a bad buzzing sound. I took the whole thing apart on a towel, cleaned out about a month of old grounds packed behind the burr, and found a tiny cracked plastic gear that had stripped out. I ordered a replacement gear for $4 with shipping and it showed up in 3 days, and the grinder spun back up like nothing happened. Feels good to keep a 6 year old machine out of the trash over a 4 dollar part. Has anyone else had a cheap fix save a grinder they were about to replace?

Watched my buddy do almost the same thing last winter. His Baratza kept stalling out and he was already shopping for a new one online. I told him to open it up first, and sure enough the burr ring was packed solid with old grounds and chaff. He vacuumed it out, put it back together, and it ran perfect. Saved himself like 150 bucks right there. He still brings it up every time we make coffee at his place.
