Realized I was tamping way too hard after 4 years
Went to a cupping event in Portland last Saturday and the host watched me prep a shot, then said "you're compacting that like concrete." Turns out all that muscle was just making my pours uneven, backed off to light pressure and the crema finally looks right. Has anyone else had a basic move get corrected by a stranger after thinking you had it down?

i mean, light tamping makes sense but changing crema seems like a stretch, maybe it's just your beans.

Four years of tamping like a freight train just to find out it was wrong? That would absolutely wreck me, I'd need a second to process that. Crema finally looking right after all that muscle sounds like a total game changer though, congrats on the upgrade.
