The week my burr grinder died and I had to use a $12 blade grinder
My 5 year old conical burr grinder quit on me last Monday morning, and I had a bag of single origin Ethiopian beans I was saving for the weekend. I figured a cheap blade grinder would get me through 3 days until the new one shipped, but wow was I wrong. The first cup tasted like burnt cardboard with a hint of gasoline, and the worst part was how uneven the grind was, some grounds were powder and others were basically whole beans. I tried shaking it while grinding and pulsing it in 2 second bursts like some forum post suggested, but it still tasted like muddy water. Has anyone actually made a decent pour over with a blade grinder, or should I just drink drip coffee until Thursday?
