TIL that pre-ground coffee from a local roaster can actually be okay

I always thought grinding fresh was a non-negotiable rule, but my grinder broke on a Tuesday morning. I grabbed a bag ground that day from a shop in Portland, and it was still miles better than any supermarket stuff. Has anyone else had a decent experience with pre-ground from a good source?

The coffee snob police are gonna revoke your membership card for this. Tbh, my grinder broke last month and I was stuck using pre-ground for a week, it was a dark time.

Oh man, "a dark time" is so real. I read this thing where a barista said pre-ground loses a lot of its flavor super fast, like in just 20 minutes after grinding. So by the time we open the bag, it's basically just brown water. Kinda explains the struggle.

Honestly the whole pre-ground thing makes you realize how much coffee is about the ritual. Like, that week without a grinder, the whole morning routine felt off. You're not just making a drink, you're going through the steps. The sound, the smell, the whole process is part of the point. Missing that is almost worse than the weaker cup.
