A 9 year old at the shop made me rethink how I talk about comics
I was grabbing a trade paperback at my local shop in Austin last Saturday and this kid, maybe 9, was asking the clerk which X-Men run to start with. The clerk launched into this whole timeline thing about Claremont and Messiah Complex and the kid just blinked and said "so which ones are cool?" It hit me that I do the same thing when someone asks for a recommendation, I dump lore instead of feelings. That kid walked out with Ultimate Spider-Man #1 and now I keep asking people what they think is cool instead of what's important to the plot. Has anyone else had a moment where a new reader made you realize you sound like a wiki page instead of a fan?
