My hand-sewn spine vs a glued spine on a repair job last weekend

I tried glue on a 1920s journal and it cracked within two hours... switched to sewing it back and the thing feels solid as a rock. Has anyone else had glue fail on older paper like that?

Hit 50 coworking meetups in Austin last week, didn't expect that

I always thought tracking how many local meetups you go to was a waste of time. But after hitting 50 coworking events at the Capital Factory space downtown, I realized the number actually showed me how many solid connections I made. It wasn't about the count itself, it was seeing 12 repeat faces that turned into real project referrals over the last 18 months. Anyone else track their meetup count and find it mattered more than you thought?

After 3 years of trying, I finally got a sharp photo of the Orion Nebula with just a DSLR and tripod

I kept seeing these amazing photos of M42 online with telescopes and fancy mounts, and I figured there was no way I could get anything decent with my old Canon T3i and a 200mm lens. But last month, I decided to actually try stacking like 300 photos in DeepSkyStacker instead of just taking one long exposure. It took me about 4 hours of messing around with the settings and watching YouTube tutorials at 2am before I realized I had to take shorter subs because of star trailing. The processing part was a whole other nightmare where I spent like 45 minutes just figuring out how to stretch the histogram without blowing out the core. When I finally got that first processed image where you could actually see the nebula shape, I nearly woke up my whole apartment building. Has anyone else spent way too long trying to get a good deep sky shot with just a cheap lens?

Tried ultrasonic cleaning on a set of injectors and one came out seized solid

Last month I had a set of Bosch injectors from a 6.7 Powerstroke that were all gummed up with carbon and old fuel deposits. Figured I'd throw them in my new ultrasonic cleaner with some heavy duty diesel cleaner for 30 minutes at 140 degrees. Five of them came out looking brand new and sprayed clean. But the sixth one had something weird happen. The ultrasonic vibrations must have loosened up some grit deep inside the nozzle and it wedged the needle valve shut. I couldn't even get it to budge with a brass punch. Now I'm wondering if I should have pulled the nozzles apart before cleaning them or if the cleaner was just too strong for that one injector. Has anyone else wrecked a part with an ultrasonic bath?

Hit 200 backlinks on a client site without even trying this year

I was just checking my ahrefs dashboard this morning and saw we hit 200 backlinks on a small blog I've been freelancing for since March. That's double what I got them last year just by publishing solid guest posts and a few broken link fixes. Has anyone else seen a big jump like that with old school outreach?

Tried the 'digital nomad beach office' thing. Got sand in my laptop fan within 20 minutes.

I used to think working from a beach in Thailand would be amazing. My first day in Koh Samui last May, I set up my laptop on a towel, and a gust of wind blew sand straight into the vent. The fan started making this grinding noise like a dying blender. I spent the next 3 hours in a 7-Eleven trying to blow it out with compressed air. Has anyone else had a beautiful location turn into a total tech nightmare?

That whole 'don't close old credit cards' advice finally clicked for me

I was skeptical for years about keeping my first credit card open with its tiny $500 limit. Figured it was just a waste of a card I never used. Then I applied for a car loan last spring and my score came back at 780, and the loan officer straight up said my average account age of 12 years was the main reason. Hit 500 haircuts this week and it hit me different than I expected

I was just going through my appointment book on Tuesday and realized I've done 500 haircuts since I started at Shear Beauty Salon in Austin two years ago. That number surprised me because I never thought of myself as someone who had that much experience yet. It made me think about how much I've improved since my first haircut there that took me almost an hour. Has anyone else just randomly hit a milestone like that and felt kind of proud about it?
