Dropped $40 on a "fermentation starter kit" off Etsy and half of it was dollar store stuff
I know, I should have looked closer at the listing photos. It showed up with a tiny jar of "heirloom brine" that smelled like old gym socks, plus a plastic airlock I could get for two bucks at any brew shop. The seller charged $40 with shipping from Sacramento and the whole thing weighed maybe half a pound. I get that small shops need to make money, but this felt like a mail order prank on my wallet. Has anyone found an actual good source for starter cultures, or am I better off just asking a neighbor with a good crock?
