Shoutout to the guy at my local comic shop who told me to stop bagging my floppies
I mean, I always thought you had to bag every single issue the second you brought it home. But this old timer at Cosmic Comics in Denver told me I was wasting my time and money on bags for stuff I'd read once and trade in. He said just keep the high value keys bagged and let the rest breathe in a short box. I tried it for like 6 months now and my $3 bin fodder actually looks fine, no worse for wear. Anyone else ever get advice that went against everything you thought was gospel?

Man, that hits home. I used to bag everything too. Even dollar bin junk from the 90s. Then this guy at my shop said the same thing. Said my X-Force #1s would be fine in a box without bags. He was right. The only stuff I bother with now is keys and anything over $20. The rest just sits in short boxes and they're still flat and clean.

Wait, did he explain why letting them breathe actually helps? I've been bagging everything for years and I'm curious if there's a real difference in how the paper ages. Like, are we talking less warping or something specific? I live in a humid area so I always worried about moisture getting in if they weren't sealed tight.

He actually said it's mostly about preventing uneven stress on the paper, like if it's sealed tight and the humidity shifts, the trapped air causes the boards to bend. In a humid place I'd still bag them but maybe leave the top open a crack so they don't get musty.
