Finally caved and tried the drysuit valve service kit everyone swears by
I always figured it was a gimmick, but last week in Port Angeles my inlet valve started free-flowing at 40 feet. Rebuilt it on the surface in 20 minutes with that $35 kit, saved a whole day of lost bottom time. Anyone else trust the DIY rebuilds or do you just send valves to the shop?

The last shop rebuild I priced ran $90 plus two weeks in the mail, so the kit paid for itself on the first valve. What nobody mentions is that most free-flows come from a tiny piece of grit stuck in the seat, and the kit's little pick tool fixes that without even taking the valve apart. I keep one in my save-a-dive bag now, but only for the inlet side. The exhaust valve on my suit has those tiny duckbill flaps that are way too easy to tear unless you have steady hands and good light.
