Question about hand floats vs fresnos on big pours in Phoenix
When I started finishing back in 2001, everybody on the crew carried a wood hand float and a fresno, and we did 2,000 square foot warehouse slabs with just those. Now I see guys showing up with magnesium floats and skip the fresno until the very end, and I think the edges come out wavy. I watched a crew pour 8,000 square feet in Phoenix last week and they never touched a fresno during the first pass, just ran mags and trowels. The finish looked fine at first but you could see ripples along the control joints after it dried. My old foreman always said the fresno is what flattens the ridges the mag leaves behind. Do you all still work a fresno in between passes, or has the mag float replaced it for you?
