Switched from a wood float to a magnesium float on my last driveway pour
The surface came out way smoother with almost no extra effort, has anyone else noticed a big difference switching floats on flatwork?

almost no extra effort" is a stretch. Mag floats take more arm work to keep the fins clean.

Yeah, I actually had the same experience when I switched, but I see what @oliviabutler is saying about the extra arm work. The mag float does need more cleanup on the fins during the pour. But here is something I've noticed in other parts of my life. When I switched from an old manual saw to a newer one with better blade and guard design, it cut way smoother but took more attention to keep the blade clean. Same thing with my cast iron skillet versus a nonstick pan. The cast iron gives a better sear but you have to scrub it more carefully. That pattern shows up a lot. You trade a little more maintenance for a nicer result. The mag float is just another example of that trade off in my opinion.
