I spent $300 on a 'secret history' book series that turned out to be pure fiction.
I saw these books online about hidden events in the 20th century, and the ads made them sound like real research. I bought all four volumes for about $300. When they arrived, I saw they had no sources or notes, just wild stories. It was a total waste of money on made-up stuff. Has anyone else been tricked by a 'history' book that was just a fancy story?

My uncle got burned on a set of those "forbidden history" DVDs for almost two hundred bucks. The rule I go by now is to check the author's name and see if real libraries or colleges carry their other work. If it's only sold through flashy online ads, it's probably junk. Perry.jesse, your buddy Jake learned that the hard way too. It feels bad to lose that cash, but at least you know what to look out for next time.

That reminds me of my cousin who bought a fancy "lost civilization" encyclopedia set. Turned out to be just a bunch of alien conspiracy theories with bad pictures. He was so mad.

Your cousin might have set his hopes too high, iris483. Those "lost civilization" books are almost always packed with wild guesses instead of real facts. The bad pictures are a dead giveaway you are getting a low effort product. It is annoying but not worth getting actually mad over.

My buddy Jake wasted $250 on a fake moon landing book, same deal as john_kim49 said.
