My uncle who does commercial leases said to never sign an auto-renew clause, and he was dead right
Two years ago my uncle Dave, who has done commercial leases for 20 years in Denver, told me to cross out the auto-renew in my gym's lease or I would get stuck. I ignored him because the landlord seemed nice and I did not want to make waves. The lease auto-renewed for 24 months at $3,400 a month last March, and I am locked in until 2027. I tried to negotiate a buyout and the landlord wants 6 months of rent plus fees. Has anyone actually gotten a landlord to drop an auto-renew mid-term, or do I just eat this until it runs out?
