Rant: landlord in Tampa slipped a $400 "common area touch up" fee into my renewal, and the old lease never had it
I pulled up the prior agreement from 2 summers ago and that line did not exist. Same building, same unit, only difference is a new property manager took over in March. Has anyone pushed back on a fee that just appeared out of nowhere like this?
Oh man this reminds me of my old place in Clearwater. New manager came in and suddenly there was a "door painting fee" of $75 added to renewals, even though nobody ever painted my door. My neighbor freaked because hers said $150 for the same thing, so clearly they were just making up numbers. Turns out a bunch of us emailed the corporate office with our old leases attached and the fee vanished real quick. These managers bank on people not digging up old paperwork. If you still have that two-year-old lease, screenshot that missing line and send it to them.
