Watched a guy at a car show once spend two whole weekends rebuilding a carb because his engine kept stalling. Replaced gaskets, adjusted the float, cleaned every jet twice, still stalled. His kid finally poked around and found a cracked vacuum cap on the intake, three bucks at the parts store. The old timers got a good laugh out of it. Those cheap little parts are always the last thing you check because your brain wants it to be something big and dramatic. Six hours for a resistor sounds about right, honestly. Bet you stared at that thing a dozen times too.
