Guy at the parts counter in Fresno told me my iron tip was the problem, not my solder
I kept getting cold joints on a batch of HDMI port swaps and figured it was my flux or my technique. An older tech at a supply shop in Fresno watched me work for two minutes and said flat out, "your tip is shot, you're heating the pad and not the joint." Swapped to a fresh 1.6mm chisel tip and my rework time dropped by about half on the next five boards. Now I keep a small log of tip hours and swap them sooner. Anyone else track tip life, or do you just eyeball it when joints start looking grainy?
