Warning: I found out a no-compete clause can last 5 years in my state and now I can't decide if I should sign
I read through a contract for a sales job in Columbus and buried in section 7 it says I can't work for any competitor for 5 years after leaving, which felt wild for a regular non-exec role. Half of me says just sign it and deal with it later, the other half says walk away, so what would you do?

Heard a lawyer on a podcast say most non-competes in sales are hard to enforce, but 5 years is long enough that a judge might actually take it serious. Companies put stuff like that in there hoping you won't push back or ask for changes. Just cross it out and write in 6 months, then see if they still want you.
