Why does nobody warn you about the "and any other duties" line in job contracts?
Signed a job offer at a warehouse outside of Columbus 3 months ago and the duties section ended with "and any other tasks as assigned." Sounded harmless. Now I'm loading trucks, sweeping floors, and covering a forklift route with no extra pay. A coworker told me that one line is how they get you. I get that contracts need some wiggle room, but is there a way to push back on that wording without looking like a problem hire? What do you all do when an employer sneaks that catch-all in?
Read a thing once that said to ask what "other tasks" usually look like before you sign, so it's on record. Hard to undo now, but maybe ask for a written list of what you're actually expected to do going forward.
