Rant: The $900 laser level that sat in my truck for 6 months before I trusted it

Bought a rotary laser level last spring for $900 because a buddy in Columbus swore by it. I kept using my old string line and bubble level out of habit. Finally tried it on a deck job in July and it cut my layout time from 2 hours to 40 minutes. Now I feel dumb for dragging that case around. Question is, what other tools did you buy and ignore for way too long before they proved worth it?

Jeez, that hits close to home. So after finally trusting it, have you completely retired the string line, or is it still hiding in the truck as a backup? I ask because I got a laser years ago and still can't fully kick the old habit. Takes one screwup with a level to make you second-guess the new tech.
