Why does nobody talk about the guy who saved my whole day at a Home Depot in Tulsa?
I was staring at my cut list for a deck job when a dude in a faded Carhartt jacket showed me his phone with a different way to frame it, and it saved me $340 in lumber. Now I'm wondering if I should be asking for help more often or if that's just one lucky break, what do you all do?

Did you actually change your framing plan based on what he showed you, or did you just take the savings and keep your original layout? I ask because there is a big difference between some guy giving you a tip that happens to work and his idea actually being better than what you had. If you went back and reworked the whole thing, that tells you something about how stuck you were in your own head on that job. Next time you are staring at a cut list, what would make you walk over and ask somebody, a certain kind of guy, a certain look, or just being frustrated enough? Figuring that out matters more than the $340, because the money was luck but knowing when to ask is a skill you can actually repeat.
