I hit my 100th perm last Friday and realized I'd been wrapping too tight this whole time. A colleague watched me work and pointed out my tension was pulling the rods at an angle, causing uneven processing near the scalp. I counted back through my logs and those 14 complaints about frizzy roots all lined up with my old habit. Switched to a looser wrap with bigger sections on the last 6 perms and the curl pattern came out way more consistent. Anyone else have a number that forced them to rethink something they'd done for years?
14 complaints from 100 perms is a 14% fail rate and you're ready to toss out your whole method? That's a tiny sample, man. Frizzy roots could just as easily be from the client's hair type, hard water, or how they wash it the first 48 hours. Bigger sections with a looser wrap might feel better now, but give it another 30 perms before you decide the old way was actually wrong.
