Watched an old video of myself doing pin curls from 2018
The technique hasn't changed much but the products I used back then were so heavy and greasy compared to what we have now. I switched to a lighter mousse and a water-based setting lotion and my curls actually hold without looking crunchy. Has anyone else noticed how much better the newer formulas are for longevity?
Right, because nothing says "good hair day" like walking around with the grease slick from a deep fryer on your scalp. I used to swear by that old school setting lotion that smelled like a granny's purse and turned my hair into a helmet by hour two. Now I can actually move my head without hearing a crackling sound. My curls last longer too, but maybe that's just because I'm not terrified to touch them anymore.
the_felix I feel like that granny purse smell is half the reason our curls held on so tight, sheer terror. I swapped to a mousse a few years back and my hair actually moves now without sounding like bubble wrap.
