I finally found a coworking space that actually has decent WiFi in Austin

I spent 6 months hopping between three different coworking spots in Austin, and the difference in internet quality was wild. Common Desk on East 6th had fiber that never dropped even during peak hours, while WeWork downtown gave me 12 Mbps on a good day. Has anyone else noticed huge gaps in internet speed between spaces or is it just me?

12 Mbps? That's basically dial up speed in 2024. I would have lost my mind trying to work off that.

The building materials in some of these spots are actually a bigger deal than people realize. @alex820 you'd be surprised how much concrete and steel can crush your signal before it even hits the router. Common Desk on East 6th is in that old renovated warehouse with wood frame construction, so the signal bounces around easier. WeWork downtown is in a high rise with metal studs and concrete floors everywhere which kills penetration. I actually tested this with a friend who works at a tech company, we got 4x the speed in the hallway vs inside a closed office at one spot on Congress. So the WiFi hardware matters but the physical layout and building bones are what really make or break your connection.
