I thought my local coworking spot was just overpriced coffee and wifi
For the first year I freelanced, I worked from my apartment in Phoenix. I finally got a day pass at The Grid downtown last month just to try it. In one week there, I got two solid project referrals just from chatting with people at the printer. My productivity jumped because I wasn't distracted by home stuff. I'm now splitting a 3-day-a-week membership with another designer I met there. Has anyone else found a specific space that really kicked off their network?

My buddy swore he'd never pay for a desk outside his house. He tried a spot in Austin for a week and ended up meeting his now-business partner in the kitchen. Sometimes the right space just puts you around the people you need to meet.

Yeah, that "right space" thing is real. My friend went to a co-working spot in Denver just for a change of scenery. She ended up meeting a client who needed her exact skills while waiting for the coffee to brew.

Reminds me of the time I got stuck next to a guy at a library printer. He was printing a huge, weirdly specific business plan. We started talking and it turned out he needed a graphic designer, which is what I do. That's kind of like what happened to @shane_wilson's friend, just a different kind of space. Never got the client though, his budget was totally wild.
