I used to think coworking spaces were just overpriced coffee shops

That changed after I went to a free 'Freelancer Friday' event at The Hive in Austin about two months ago. I figured I'd just grab the free coffee and maybe get some work done, but I ended up talking to a graphic designer and a copywriter for almost an hour. We weren't just chatting, we actually swapped a few small tips on client contracts and local networking groups. I realized the real value wasn't the desk or the wifi, it was the unplanned conversations with people who get the freelance hustle. Now I make a point to go to at least one event a month, even if it's just for an hour, because those random connections have led to more real help than any online forum. How do you guys find the best events in your area that aren't just sales pitches?

Fancy cafes" is right, I used to call them that too! Now I'm just trying to find the free snacks without getting stuck in a sales talk.

Oh man, I totally get that. I had the same thought about them just being fancy cafes. But then I went to a casual meetup at one and ended up getting some great advice on pricing from a photographer. It really is about those random talks.
