Old foreman swore by hand signals over radios, finally saw why

Back in 2018 I worked a job in Portland with a foreman named Dale who refused to let anyone use radios on site. He said hand signals force you to actually watch the load instead of staring at the operator's cab. Last month I was on a tight tower crane pick near some power lines, radio died halfway through, and I had to fall back on his old signals. That whole setup went smoother than any radio job I've done since. Anyone else still work sites that ban radios, or am I just getting cursed with old-school guys?
