I kept writing the same boring foot chase in my short story and it felt dead by page 2, so I tried something dumb: I wrote down the chase as a list of 12 sounds only, no visuals. Things like a dumpster lid clanging and wet shoes slapping on the pier at Navy Pier. That switch made me hear the scene instead of just seeing it, and the whole thing clicked. Has anyone else used a sense swap like that when a prompt goes flat?
