Vent: Basement reno find has me stuck on a story idea

Just finished my basement project. Pulled up the old flooring. Found a hidden stash of letters. Now I have a ghost story in my head. Could use some creative prompts to get it written down.

Ghost story feels like the easy way out with old letters. The real mystery is why someone hid them. That's where the good stuff is... a normal person with a secret they couldn't throw away. The scariest thing down there might just be the truth.

Found letters under the floorboards? Classic. Anthony197 has a point about the real story being why they were hidden. Could be grocery lists from 1982, or something that makes you miss simple ghosts. AliceHarris is probably hoping for a nice love story, but my money's on something boring and sad, like unpaid taxes or a really bad poetry phase. The truth is usually just depressing, not spooky.
