Swore by complex passwords until a coworker at my MSP showed me passphrases after I locked myself out of a client server 3 times in one week

A 6 word passphrase like 'correct horse battery staple' is way easier to remember and still passes our 16 character policy, so why is everyone still pushing random junk?

Had a client whose password was just "password". That was a fun week.

12 character minimums made me a believer in passphrases after i locked myself out of my own laptop once.

Happened to my mom last year. She had her password on a sticky note under the keyboard. Thought she was being clever. Then the note got stuck to some gum and ripped in half. Had to drive two hours to her house to reset it. Now she uses a passphrase too. Something about her cats and a favorite food.
