Am I the only one who spent 4 hours last Friday hunting for the right dental floss for my patient with braces
I used to think all floss was the same until my patient with braces came in with a broken wire and I realized the super floss I grabbed from the supply closet at the clinic in Dayton was too thick to get under the bracket, so I ended up trying 3 different types before finding one that slid through without shredding, and now I'm wondering if anyone else has a go-to floss for braces that actually works.

all floss was the same" is where you lost me, because that is just not true and four hours in a supply closet should have proven it. The floss you pick matters way more than most people want to admit, and braces are the worst case for it since you need something that threads under the wire without fraying. I would not call it a personal favorite so much as a hard rule: thin and waxed for brackets, and the fluffy stuff only for cleaning around the gum line. Half the problems people blame on the patient's home care come down to using the wrong tool from the start.
