Had to pick between a root canal and an extraction on my lower left molar, and 8 months later I'm second guessing the $1,400 I spent
My dentist in Columbus gave me two options on tooth #19 back in March: root canal plus a crown for about $1,400 out of pocket, or pull it for $250 and deal with the gap. I sat in the parking lot for 20 minutes doing math on my phone and went with the root canal because I'm only 41 and didn't want to lose a molar yet. The procedure itself was 2 visits and honestly not that bad, but the crown came back from the lab too high twice and I had to go back a third time to get it ground down. Now the tooth feels fine when I chew but it's sensitive to cold drinks in a way it never was before, and I catch myself favoring the right side without thinking about it. If you were choosing between saving a back molar and yanking it, what actually tipped the decision for you?
