I paid $1,100 for a single dental implant instead of the $400 one and I still can't tell if I got played
My dentist in Tucson gave me two quotes back in March, the cheap one from a chain place and the pricey one from a guy who does nothing but implants all day. The chain one felt rushed and the crown never sat right after two tries, so I paid the extra and the new one has been fine for 6 months now, but I honestly can't prove the first guy would have failed. Has anyone here gone cheap on an implant and had it actually hold up, or does the price gap mean something real?

The price gap usually means something real but not in the way people think. It's less about the implant itself and more about who's placing it and how many they've done. A guy doing nothing but implants all day has seen every weird bone shape and gum issue, so he knows when to graft, when to wait, when to angle the thing differently. The chain dentist might do two a month and follow a script, which works fine until your mouth doesn't match the script. Your crown not sitting right after two tries was probably the tell, that's a fit and planning problem, not a luck problem. Six months of a quiet implant that you never think about is honestly the best proof you're gonna get.
