Appreciation post: The difference in my 6.7 Powerstroke after a full EGR cooler clean
I mean, I used to think the EGR was just a thing that made more work for us. But this truck came in with a rough idle and a coolant smell, maybe 3 months ago. Pulled the cooler and it was maybe 70% blocked with soot. After a full clean and putting it back, the idle smoothed right out and the exhaust temp dropped by like 150 degrees at cruise. It really made me think, is it better to just replace these units when they get bad, or is the cleaning worth the time if you catch it early? What's your usual call on these?

Cleaned mine at 60% blockage, worked great. Would only replace if it's totally shot.

Totally agree! I ran mine at like 70% clogged for months and it was fine. Why replace something that still works, right?

Exactly! The thing is, if it still gets the job done, why mess with it? My old one was making a weird noise for a whole year, but it never actually quit. Only swapped it out because we remodeled the kitchen. People are too quick to throw stuff away these days.
