Changed my mind about preburning injectors after a $1,400 lesson in Tulsa
I used to skip the preburn step on stuck injectors. Thought it was a waste of time and torch fuel. Last month a 2006 Freightliner rolled in with a seized injector in cylinder 4. I fought it for 3 hours with a slide hammer and broke the injector body clean off. Shop foreman walked over and said 'you just turned a 2 hour job into a head pull.' That was $1,400 in labor and parts later. Now I always hit them with the induction heater for 10 minutes before I even touch the puller. Has anyone else had a stuck injector ruin their whole week like that?
