Glow plugs vs. block heater up in Fargo, I was wrong about which one actually matters
Ran a 6.0 Power Stroke with just a block heater for two winters here and fought hard starts every single morning below 10 degrees. Threw in new glow plugs and a controller last month and it fires up like it's July, so now I'm wondering if anyone else up north bothers with the heater at all once the plugs are actually working.

Plenty of guys up there just plug in out of habit and never test if the plugs are even doing anything. Ten below is cold enough that a bad glow plug setup will bite you no matter what the heater's doing.
