Choosing between a Wacom tablet and an iPad for my first digital art setup

I saved for months and finally had to pick between a Wacom Intuos Pro and a basic iPad with an Apple Pencil. I went with the iPad because I could also use it for other stuff, and my first piece was a portrait of my dog. Has anyone else started with a tablet and later switched to something else?

My buddy started on a screenless tablet and said it felt like drawing with a blindfold on (his words, not mine). He switched to an iPad a year later and never looked back.

Actually, you did pick a tablet. An iPad is a tablet computer. I think you mean you picked a screen tablet over a non-screen drawing tablet like the Intuos. That's a huge difference in how you draw, looking right at your hand. The iPad was a solid choice to start, especially since you can use it for other things. I started on a non-screen Wacom and the hand-eye coordination drove me nuts.

Drawing with a blindfold on" is a pretty good way to describe my first time trying one of those things too.
