Picked up a coloring trick from a Procreate speedpaint video I saw yesterday

I was watching this artist work on a landscape and realized they were using a multiply layer with a purple-blue overlay instead of just picking darker colors for shadows. Tried it on my own piece last night and the depth came together way faster than my old method. Has anyone else found a layer blend setting that changed how they shade?

So you're saying using tools makes you a worse artist or just lazy?

Oh for sure @simonlee, gatekeeping blend modes is definitely the real issue here lol. Guess I'll just throw my iPad in the trash and go back to finger painting with mud.

Nah, I'm gonna go the other way on this one. Relying on blend modes for shading makes your work look flat and samey, like everyone else copying the same trick from the same video. Learning how to pick your shadow colors by eye builds way more control and a unique style over time.
