Mud mixer vs. hand mixing, went back to the old way

After years of using a paddle mixer, I tried mixing a few buckets by hand for a small bathroom job last week. Took twice as long but the mud came out way smoother with no air bubbles, made finishing 10 times easier. Anyone else notice this or did I just get a bad batch with the drill?

Wasted $120 on a fancy knife set that dulled in two weeks

I bought a 8-piece chef knife set from a trendy online brand back in March. By the end of the second week the main blade couldn't slice through a ripe tomato clean. I ended up going back to my old $40 Victorinox knife from culinary school and it still holds an edge better. Has anyone else had buyers remorse over those pretty knife sets that look good but perform poorly?

My neighbor's perfect lawn made me realize I was overwatering

I mean, I was watering my grass in Phoenix for 20 minutes every morning, thinking it needed it in the heat. But his yard looked way better, and he told me he only does a deep soak twice a week for an hour with his Rain Bird timer. I looked it up, and shallow daily watering just makes weak roots. Anyone else in a dry area figure out a good schedule?

Update: I saw a crew in Phoenix pour a huge slab without any control joints

This was about three months ago on a commercial job site. They were finishing a 40 by 60 foot warehouse floor and the foreman told me, 'We never cut joints, we just let it crack naturally and patch it later.' I was shocked. I've always been taught you need to cut control joints within 24 hours to manage the cracking. They argued it saved them half a day of labor and the client didn't care. I think that's a terrible long-term practice that gives our trade a bad name. Has anyone else run into crews skipping this basic step to save time?
