Just hit 6 months in Lisbon and finally found a dentist I can walk to
Moved here last October and spent way too long putting off a cleaning because I didn't know how insurance works abroad. Found a spot in Alfama that charges 45 euros flat, cash only, and the dentist spoke better English than I do. Now I'm wondering what other basic stuff I've been avoiding. Any other nomads have a go-to city for cheap medical stuff?
Oh man the insurance confusion is so real and I did the exact same thing when I was in Mexico City. Went almost eight months without seeing anyone and then finally caved when a filling started hurting, and the clinic I found charged like 30 bucks for the whole thing, no paperwork, just walked in. It was honestly cleaner than my old place back home and the guy explained everything in slow Spanish so I could actually follow along. The weird part is that putting it off made it feel way scarier than it was, like I'd built up this whole thing in my head about forms and coverage and then none of that even came up. Now I just ask other people wherever I land instead of trying to sort it out online, because folks who live there always know the walk-in spots. Medellin was my other one, dental stuff there was dirt cheap too if you ever end up that way.
