My no-laptop weekend rule turned my nomad life around
I was working all the time from my laptop while traveling in Southeast Asia, and it felt like I was just moving offices. So I set a rule: no laptop from Friday night to Monday morning. It was hard because I kept thinking about work. But I used the time to explore local markets, try new foods, and just walk around. After a few weeks, I felt less stressed and even looked forward to Mondays. My work didn't get worse, I got more done in four days than before. Now I can't imagine working every day. Has anyone else tried this? How do you balance work and travel?

But what's actually an emergency that can't wait until Monday morning? It feels like we're trained to treat every client email as urgent, but most things aren't. Maybe the real risk is burning out so hard you quit the lifestyle anyway.

Setting hard rules like that seems risky for someone living on the road (what if an emergency comes up?). Constant connectivity is part of the deal if you want to keep that life going. A better method is taking smaller, planned breaks during the week instead of locking away your main tool for days. You can miss important messages or lose a client's trust by being totally offline.

Saw an article once about how the "always on" work culture actually burns people out faster. They mentioned setting clear off-hours for replies lets clients know what to expect.
